Is Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham’s Adolescence already the show of 2025? In terms of being talked about, it quickly found its way into Prime Minister’s Questions in the UK, with its evocation of how teenage boys can be radicalised into misogynistic violence. Made by Netflix, and mainly shot in South Kirby, it instantly felt domestic (much like its stablemate, the Corby-set Toxic Town, also written by Thorne) but found a global audience.
It comes at a time when there are gloomy prognostications for British drama, with Peter Kosminsky recently revealing the final run of Wolf Hall was nearly abandoned due to budget cuts, and ruing that public service broadcasters would soon no longer be able to afford large-scale productions.
