The only physical copy of Wu-Tang Clan’s album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, auctioned for $US4 million ($6 million) in 2021, will be available to hear next month at Hobart’s Museum Of Old & New Art.
Recorded in secret by the New York rap collective over six years, the album was pressed on two compact discs in 2014 and its digital master files were deleted. Housed in a sterling silver, jewel-encrusted box complete with Wu-Tang wax seal and leather-bound liner notes, the album was auctioned the following year with a contract stipulating the work could not be commercially exploited until the year 2103.
