When Marco Fusinato cranks up the amplifiers for his first performance of the 2022 Venice Biennale – a visceral sound and image work titled Desastres – art enthusiasts enjoying the Venetian Giardini with its promenades and spreading shade trees won’t quite know what hit them, sonically speaking.

“There’ll be nothing shy about the Australian pavilion this year,” predicts Australia Council chief executive Adrian Collette.
