A painting of celebrated West Australian author Tim Winton by Sydney artist Laura Jones has won the $100,000 Archibald Prize for portraiture, with the artist declaring that she hopes her win will also help the natural environment.

Winton is well known for his environmental advocacy, and the pair met in 2017 at an event to help save the Great Barrier Reef.
