The National Gallery Of Victoria’s eight-figure investment in Yayoi Kusama has paid off, with the 96-year-old Japanese artist’s career retrospective set to become the most popular ticketed art show in Australian history.
The NGV’s summer blockbuster surpassed 425,000 paid attendances this week. Internal forecasts have the show – which costs $38 for a standard adult entry – topping 500,000 before it closes on April 21, helped by opening hours being extended to meet demand during Victoria’s school holidays.
