Simone Young, one of Australia's most famous musical exports, is coming home to become the chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 2022.

A trailblazer for female conductors, Ms Young was the first woman (and at 25 the youngest person) to be resident conductor at Opera Australia in 1986, then the first woman to conduct the Vienna State Opera in 1993 and the Vienna Philharmonic in 2005.
