John Lennon’s mind games now lie across another universe
The famous Beatle would have been 81 today. But even if he had lasted this long, it’s unlikely his lyrics would make it now.
Rowan DeanSatiristIt’s John Lennon’s birthday! The man who declared himself bigger than Jesus Christ before later declaring that he was Jesus Christ; the man who scribbled down the lyrics “Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can” in the back of his chauffeur-driven psychedelic Rolls-Royce on the way to his Surrey mansion; and the man who retired from being a superstar in order to bake bread for his son would today turn 81.
Could there be a pop star who was more enlightened or progressive? Perhaps not. But how would his lyrics stand up in today’s world of cancel culture and woke identity politics? One can only, er, imagine.
