High-flying designer David Caon on the books that keep him grounded

At work, the creative mind behind the Qantas Dreamliner cabin refit has his head in the clouds. But when reading, he finds connections through the mundanities of life.

David Caon, pictured in Qantas' new first-class lounge at Changi Airport in Singapore, finds his work often leads him to particular books. 

When he's not reimagining aircraft interiors, industrial designer David Caon finds the time to pick up a book or two. The Caon Design Office founder, whose latest project is to refit the interior of Qantas’ A380, speaks with AFR Magazine for its regular What I Am Reading column.

Do you read books for work?
Yes. Something will lead me to a particular architect, designer or artist and then I will search for books about them. I really like the big coffee table design books which give an overview of someone’s career as well as a biographical element.
