Two richly coloured abstract paintings by Australian artist Brett Whiteley have emerged into the public realm for the first time since a young woman pounced on them in London and took them home to the US, where she treasured them for life.
Kaaren Lynn Welo was 22 years old and studying art in London when she walked into the Matthiesen Gallery in New Bond Street in December 1961 and saw the two bold paintings.
