'Design nerd' Tim Ross uncovers a mid-century Opera House mystery
Why were John Coburn's enormous and applauded curtains, part of the original design of the Sydney Opera House, removed only two years after being installed?
You’ve got to hand it to Tim Ross. The comedian and radio personality turned his love of Australian mid-century design into a career, and even a global pandemic can’t stop him.
Through his ABC-TV shows, two books and the live show Man About The House (performed in iconic buildings around the country), Ross is a passionate advocate for the design of the 1950s, '60s and '70s. He happily segues from the drive-in motels of our collective childhood to serious architects like Seidler, Murcutt and Boyd. He lives in a classic 1959 home, replete with kidney-shaped pool and red lino floors.
