Opera Australia is in the biggest crisis of its 64-year history, so it has enlisted its biggest-ever star to help it stay connected to the public.
Dame Joan Sutherland, the soprano dubbed "La Stupenda" by adoring Italian audiences, appeared many times for her home nation's opera company between 1974 and her retirement from the stage in 1990. She died in 2010.
