A casting of Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker sculpture, one of the most iconic works of art in the world, sold for €10.7 million ($16.2 million) at a Paris auction.
The 70-centimetre-high casting is one of about 40 authentic ones of outstanding quality. Auction house Christie’s had estimated it would fetch between €9 million to €14 million in last week’s sale. The record for a Thinker was set at a Sotheby’s auction in New York in 2013, when one sold for $US15.3 million ($22.5 million).
