Contango Microcap showdown as ex-directors cry foul

Searching for value at the bottom end
The marked scale-back in small caps valuations as a result of the market turmoil could prompt investors to search for value in the minnow end of the market. Contango MicroCap (CTN)
The listed investment company holds a portfolio of microcap stocks with market capitalisation of between $10 million and $250 million. The size of its total portfolio has declined from $243.6 million at the start of 2008 to $201 million at the end of June, as the sharemarket tumbled. But in recent months, the fund manager has reduced its cash holdings to bolster its exposure to listed equities. The company's share price has declined significantly from the peak of $2.29 per share in July last year. The stock is also now trading at well below the pre-tax net tangible asset value of $1.706 per share as at June 30, which was down 5.2 per cent for that month.
