Taxi firms and rival Uber crunched as demand plunges

Australian taxi operators and ride-sharing firms led by Uber are taking a big hit from the coronavirus pandemic, with demand plunging by as much as 70 per cent as airports are deserted, CBDs become ghost towns and pubs and restaurants are temporarily shut.
The chief executive of industry body the Australian Taxi Industry Association, Blair Davies, said the taxi industry and ride-sharing firms were equally affected.
