Airline Regional Express has taken the first step towards converting part of its fleet of 61 Saab 340 aircraft from turbine power to electric, zero-emission propulsion after forming a strategic partnership with Australian aviation start-up Dovetail Electric Aviation.
Under the deal, Rex will become a significant shareholder in Dovetail, which was formed in 2021 by Sydney Seaplanes-owner Sydney Aviation Holdings and Dante Aeronautical to develop the technology and approvals for airlines to move to electric-powered aircraft.
