For the first time, Qantas faces disciplined competition
The airline's CEO, Alan Joyce, says one of its two domestic rivals will not survive. What makes him think he is on such strong ground?
John SharpContributorRex’s entry into the domestic big city aviation market is the biggest game-changer I have witnessed in my 40 years of being involved with the Australian aviation industry – three established players (albeit one recently out of administration) facing up as genuine competitors.
From Rex’s perspective, there has never been a better time to set up a domestic carrier. Out of the adversity of COVID-19 comes opportunity – aircraft are plentiful and affordable, fuel is cheap, experienced Australian pilots are available, and there is plenty of space at airports.
