Australia’s 3800 car dealerships could be $2 billion worse off over the next five years if the auto industry fails to adapt to stricter fuel efficiency standards aimed at steadily removing higher-polluting vehicles from the roads.
Under the federal government’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, car manufacturers will be measured across their entire new vehicle ranges, with penalties to be applied from July 1 for heavy polluters.
