Major Australian airports coughed up enough CO2 emissions to match four coal-fired power plants in 2019, says a new global analysis which criticises sustainability reporting standards as “outdated” and “unhelpful” in the race to cut the aviation sector’s rapidly growing contribution to global warming.

The report said Australia was an example of a country with “high-polluting airports in areas with relatively few people”. Dominic Lorrimer
