Airlines and Melbourne Airport headed for runway funding feud

Qantas boss Vanessa Hudson has warned Melbourne Airport that it should not rush into building its proposed third runway until it is genuinely needed because it will push up fares for passengers unless traffic improves.

“We are big supporters of [the] new runway coming on in Melbourne, but it’s got to come on when the demand is there,” Ms Hudson told a conference in Sydney arranged by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia, a public-private industry group.
