‘Worse than SARS’: tourism could bleed $2b a month

The impact of the coronavirus on Australia's multibillion-dollar tourism industry will be worse than the SARS outbreak in 2003 and is expected to cost $2 billion a month, according to a new report.

The Tourism Transport Forum report to be released on Friday has painted a bleak outlook for the sector – international visitors are expected to drop 40 per cent between January and June – a loss of 1.8 million visitors.
