Melbourne has lost its standing as the country’s conference capital as an increasing share of the $20 billion spent each year on corporate events and functions heads north to NSW and Queensland.
Data by Tourism Research Australia, which is part of the Australian Commission for Trade and Investment (Austrade), shows that business event spending in Victoria for the year to June was $4.2 billion, or 21 per cent of the national total of $19.8 billion.
