Telstra claims to have found “the basic architecture” for an emergency roaming system to connect mobile phones in regional areas during natural disasters but has not specified the cost to taxpayers.
Telstra, TPG and Optus have been working together for almost a year to develop a system that would “roam” between different telecommunications providers and find available networks during bushfires or floods.
