Beach volleyballers Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar have taken silver – Australia’s first Olympic medal in the sport since Sydney 2000 – after losing the battle for gold in straight sets to a dominant US team.

And in boxing, Harry Garside – the plumber who has made ballet and karaoke part of his training regime – has taken bronze in the men’s light category after losing to Cuban Andy Cruz.
