Legal action vowed against Rugby Australia after Melbourne Rebels axed

Former Qantas chairman and Rio Tinto chief executive Leigh Clifford has declared war against Rugby Australia after the governing body decided to axe its Melbourne-based Super Rugby club.

Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh and chairman Daniel Herbert flew to Melbourne on Thursday to deliver the devastating blow to the financially stricken club, which will no longer be part of the Super Rugby Pacific Competition.
