McKeown sets Olympic record in 100m backstroke gold
Queenslander Kaylee McKeown set an Olympic record and gave Australia its third gold medal in the women’s 100-metre backstroke final on Tuesday, while 400-metre champion Ariarne Titmus set herself up another showdown in the 200-metre freestyle final.
McKeown completed the race in 57.47 seconds, marking a moment of triumph in a tragic year for the 20-year old, whose father Sholto died 11 months ago from brain cancer and to whom she has a tattoo dedicated on her right foot.
