Birmingham | And they’re off. The starter pistol was fired at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a spectacular ceremony at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. It was loud, colourful and ludicrous, a huge multimedia extravaganza, with an audience almost as colourfully attired and energetic as the performers.
It was the UK’s biggest multi-sport event since the 2012 London Olympics, and effort had been made to match the spectacle of that opening ceremony, albeit with a distinctly local flair.
