The Indian team's magnificent triumph symbolises the rise of modern India, as Australia looks to forge a stronger relationship with our great sub-continental friend and sporting rival.
For partisan Australian fans, five-day Test cricket was the winner on Tuesday. But, of course, the real and deserved winner was the resilient Indian cricket team. With an injury-ravaged second- and third-string line-up, without the world’s best batsman and captain Virat Kohli, and with all three results possible heading into the final hour of the final Test, India pulled off a stunning victory in the shadow of stumps, inflicting the first defeat on Australia at the “Gabbatoir” since 1988.
