Brisbane gets preferred bidder status for 2032 Olympics

Brisbane is all but certain to host the 2032 summer Olympic and Paralympic Games after the International Olympic Committee said the bid team would enter into exclusive negotiations.

IOC president Thomas Bach said the committee’s executive board had accepted the recommendation from its so-called Future Host Commission, paving the way for Australia to host its third Olympic games after Melbourne in 1956 and Sydney in 2000. The Brisbane Games would occur three decades since Australia last held the global tournament.
