Social licence win in Woolworths’ backdown on Darwin Dan Murphy’s

Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean it’s right. If there was any doubt that this message had finally infiltrated the directors’ club, consider Woolworths’ decision to hand back its controversial Darwin liquor licence.

In fact, Woolworths did far more than just that: it commissioned an independent report into its process; and then – even more unusually – chose to make the report, which was critical of its actions, public.
