When David Jones closed its outlet store at Birkenhead Point shopping centre in Sydney almost three years ago it was a blessing in disguise for new landlord Mirvac Group.

David Jones' run-down clearance store has been replaced by upmarket retailers such as Harrolds, Coach, Bally and Michael Kors as part of a $19 million redevelopment which has transformed the heritage-listed former Dunlop factory into a premium outlet shopping centre.
