Country Road owner probes claim suppliers pressured into ‘rebates’

The South African owners of Country Road are investigating whether senior managers at the retailer improperly pressured suppliers to meet the company’s earnings forecasts.

The probe is being conducted by Decipher Workplace Law, which has interviewed multiple staff as part of the review. Two sources, speaking on condition of anonymity given the sensitive nature of the review, said it was looking into the treatment of Country Road vendors and those supplying to its Trenery, Mimco, Witchery and Politix brands.
