In the midst of a maelstrom this week, as politicians from every party railed against her supermarket, Woolworths chief executive Amanda Bardwell found herself confronted by a shopper south of Sydney.

The encounter was filmed and uploaded to TikTok. The shopper asked Bardwell why her company was price gouging – why Woolworths was happy to make “big bucks” while people suffered and went without food.
