Wesfarmers pauses using facial recognition at Bunnings, Kmart

Wesfarmers’ retail chains, Bunnings and Kmart, have paused the use of facial recognition technology as the Australian Information Commissioner presses its investigation over privacy concerns.

Earlier this month, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) opened investigations into the personal information handling practices of both chains focusing on the companies’ use of facial recognition technology following a report from consumer advocacy group Choice.
