As chief executive Adam Powick prepares to leave Deloitte Australia, the kid from Heidelberg is struck by how much hasn’t changed.

After almost four decades of working with IT systems, it’s become clear to Adam Powick that new technologies tend to be overhyped, and in the real world take much longer than expected to deliver the promised results.

“My view is we tend to fall into the trap of initially over inflating everything – today we are talking about AI, but we had AI in the ’70s,” the former Deloitte Australia chief executive says.
