Virus nerves hit law firms' partner promotions

Australia's leading law firms have put the brakes on partner promotions during COVID-19 as they cast a wary eye over the rest of the year and prepare for the recession to bite.

Only 185 people joined the partnership ranks of the 50 firms represented in the latest edition of The Australian Financial Review Law Partnership Survey – a fall of 30.19 per cent on the 265 appointments in July 2019.
