Law firms raid ACCC for staff as merger reforms near

Top-tier law firms are launching headhunting raids on the regulator as they beef up their competition expertise, ahead of sweeping merger reforms coming into force next year.

Herbert Smith Freehills and King & Wood Mallesons have both hired senior lawyers from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in the past month, as clients come knocking for advice on how a new mandatory notification regime will affect their operations.
