The Australian Taxation Office is “following up” a 2015 decision to write off an almost $1 million tax penalty owed by former prime minister Paul Keating.
The waiver of the penalty, known as remission of a general interest charge (GIC), happened after tax authorities initially refused to write off the charge for interest and penalties.
