Russia oligarch ‘ring-fenced’, Rio told in Aussie sanctions spat

Rio Tinto’s Russia-based partner in a Queensland alumina refinery has alleged it ring-fenced operations so no benefits flowed to a Russian oligarch targeted in sanctions following Ukraine’s invasion.
Federal Court filings obtained by The Australian Financial Review illustrate how subsidiaries of Russia-based Rusal are arguing that a contractual trigger related to sanctions should have never been pulled.
