Rio’s Wyatt appointment disappoints native title group

An important native title group for Rio Tinto has expressed disappointment at Friday’s news that Western Australia’s former Aboriginal Affairs minister Ben Wyatt would join the miner’s board of directors.
Six of Rio’s WA iron ore mines are on the ancestral lands of the Eastern Guruma people, who went as far as the WA Supreme Court in 2018 to fight an iron ore railway proposal that threatened sacred sites.
