Crises bring new Rio Tinto boss out of his Shell

This year’s Juukan Gorge scandal was not the first time new Rio Tinto boss Jakob Stausholm has felt the chill wind of social expectations shredding his employer’s reputation.
Stausholm was a young employee of Shell in 1995 when the oil giant’s service stations across Europe were boycotted because of a war with Greenpeace over plans to bury an oil storage vessel on the bottom of the North Sea.
