BHP’s move to raise the bar on disclosures about its tailings dams landed with carefully planned precision on the eve of the deadline for 683 active diggers around the globe to respond to a mission in transparency led by the Church of England.

Back in April, the Church of England and The Swedish Council of Ethics for its various national pension funds launched the Investor Mining and Tailings Safety Initiative with two “interventions”.
