Those in the room reckon Guy Debelle could be seen wincing when he sat down to participate in a session of the UBS Australasia conference at the Sydney Sheraton last week.

But it was probably nothing compared to the sharp pang of pain Andrew Forrest felt when Debelle announced he would step down as chief financial officer of the Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) subsidiary.
