BHP has appointed former National Australia Bank chief executive Ross McEwan as its next chairman, less than a year after he left the financial services industry and joined the board of the world’s biggest miner.
He succeeds Ken MacKenzie, who had chaired the company for just over eight years, and said he would focus on “generating long-term value” for BHP shareholders when he takes over at the end of March.
