Climate protesters who blocked the shipping channels to the Port of Newcastle over the weekend claimed they stopped the export of 500,000 tonnes of coal from Australia’s largest port.

While there were about 10 delayed ships off the coast of Newcastle on Sunday as protesters ended their 30-hour floating shutdown, the Port of Newcastle would not confirm the economic impact of the protest.
