Seven West Media has written down its television licence and its newspapers, The West Australian, The Sunday Times and regional titles, pushing the media company into the red amid the toughest advertising market since the global financial crisis.

It comes just days after Seven replaced long-serving chief executive Tim Worner with James Warburton, who left the company in 2011 to become boss of Network Ten.
