Record labels fight to scrap cap on what radio stations pay them
The Australian music industry has declared war on radio stations, lobbying Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus to remove a cap on how much the stations must pay to broadcast their sound recordings.
The record business has also launched proceedings in the Copyright Tribunal of Australia, seeking to more than double the royalty rate it extracts from radio. It is seeking public support through an imminent advertising campaign dubbed Radio Fair Play.
