Nine Network bets on local drama over US shows

Nine Entertainment Co Holdings will use money it saves buying fewer Warner Bros television shows to invest in local drama, a switch it hopes will help overcome weaker than expected ratings.

The Nine Network's director of programming, Andrew Backwell, said viewers are shunning US dramas they used to tune into in the millions, adding that local drama is more immune to the piracy that has damaged viewing figures for overseas productions.
