Nine Entertainment could end up securing a multimillion-dollar broadcast deal for the Melbourne Cup after rival Seven West Media abruptly decided to withdraw from the negotiating process.

ASX-listed wagering giant Tabcorp is finalising a deal with Victoria Racing Club, owner of the Melbourne Cup rights, and has run a bidding process for several months to offload some coverage to a television network (it is required to offer the rights under federal anti-siphoning laws).
