Government threatens Nine over Steve Dickson strip club story

Max Mason

The federal Attorney-General's department wrote a "chilling" letter to Nine boss Hugh Marks encouraging the media company to do a "self assessment", despite no law being broken, after A Current Affair aired footage of One Nation Queensland leader Steve Dickson making derogatory comments and groping dancers in a US strip club.

The news story, which ultimately led to Mr Dickson's resignation, came from footage taken by an undercover journalist from Al Jazeera, which investigated One Nation and its meetings with the US gun lobby group National Rifle Association in Washington.
