Former Fairfax Media chief executive Greg Hywood has been tapped as chairman of Free TV, the industry lobby group of Australian metropolitan and regional free-to-air television.

Mr Hywood led Fairfax from 2010 to 2018 and was instrumental in helping the then-ailing publisher turn around and transition to digital, in publishing and in digital investments such as real estate classifieds business Domain and a half stake in subscription video-on-demand service Stan.
